OVERVIEW:

Design & Supply was selected to manufacture, supply and install fire-rated steel doorsets for the new Mermaid Quay multi-storey car park, a 679-space facility located at the heart of Cardiff Bay’s popular waterfront destination.The development has been designed to improve access for visitors while supporting the restaurants, shops and entertainment venues that make Mermaid Quay one of Cardiff’s most vibrant leisure destinations.As part of the wider construction package, Design & Supply delivered over 40 FD60 steel doorsets, tested and certified to EN 1634-1, providing 60 minutes of fire resistance in accordance with the project’s fire strategy requirements.

CHALLENGES:

Multi-storey car parks present a number of unique operational and compliance challenges:

Heavy Daily Usage – Doorsets must withstand constant use by large numbers of visitors.
Exposure to the Elements – External and semi-exposed locations require durable steel solutions capable of long-term performance.
Fire Compliance – The project required FD60-rated doorsets that met the building’s fire compartmentation strategy and relevant certification standards.

The doors were manufactured to achieve EN 1634-1 certification, delivering 60 minutes of fire resistance while providing the durability expected within a heavily used multi-storey car park environment.
